Draw of top schools costs parents extra £91k
Parents have to pay an extra £91,618 in order to live near
some of the top schools in the UK, according to a new study.
Research from PrimeLocation.com revealed that mums and dads are
willing to pay on average 42 per cent more to reside by one of the
nation's top primary state schools.
The report looked at asking prices surrounding the top 100 state
primary schools in England, with the average price being
£309,732. This is substantially more than the UK average price
of property which stands at £218,114.
Nigel Lewis, property analyst at PrimeLocation.com, said: "It's no
surprise that parents are investing considerable amounts of money
choosing a home that gives their child access to the best school
possible.
This demand has led to higher than average asking prices for homes
in the most sought-after neighbourhoods, pricing many parents out
of the area altogether."
For some parents, they face a choice of moving home or picking a
different school, as many in the UK only take students from within
a certain perimeter.
